Replit
Make your Replit app ready for customers who depend on it.
Replit puts the editor, the agent, the database and the deployment in one place, which is why apps get built there so quickly. Production asks a few things of that setup that a prototype never had to.
Common failure modes
These turn up in fast-built apps whatever they were built with, once an app grows faster than anyone reviews it. Most can be fixed where the app is.
-
Secrets in the code
Keys written into source files can be read by anyone who can see the project or a copy of it. They belong in Replit's Secrets, and the ones that are secret must never reach the browser.
-
One database for building and for customers
When the agent and the live app share a database, a change made while building can alter or delete customer data. Development and production need to be separate.
-
API routes that trust the caller
Every route that reads or changes data has to check who is asking, on the server. A check in the page alone can be skipped.
-
Deployments without monitoring
An app customers rely on needs health checks, error alerts and logs someone reads, so problems are found before customers report them.
-
No tested way back
A backup only counts once a restore has been tried. The same goes for rolling back a bad deploy.
What the audit checks on a Replit app
The code and product audit reads the code, not only what is visible from outside, and ranks every finding by what it means for the business. On a Replit app, that includes:
- Secrets: where they are stored, and which ones reach the browser.
- Database separation, access and backups.
- Authentication, and the checks on every API route.
- Deployment configuration, health checks, logging and alerts.
- Dependencies and runtime versions.
- Your product and business goals, from an interview, so every finding is ranked by what it means for the business.
Production-ready where you are
The default recommendation is to make the app hold up on Replit. Moving to other hosting is recommended only when the audit shows it is worth the cost.
Run the free check on your Replit app.
It scans what your app already shows the world, such as keys in its JavaScript, its headers, HTTPS and versions, and Aaron reviews the result within two business days. It runs only after you confirm by email and show the app is yours.
